A little bit about me and my work .......
I loved sketching as a child, but on leaving school went down the then usual path of doing a secretarial course.  However, I wasn't a fast typist, so eventually trained as a primary school teacher, achieving the post for art and display.  I also initiated an art club for some truly talented young artists.

After marriage and two sons, our family moved to New Zealand, and it was there that I finally plucked up the courage to join a Saturday morning art class and through that discovered the joy of painting with watercolours, mostly flowers, but very conscious of the wonderful clear light of our surroundings.

Since then I've gone to a variety of groups, including life drawing which I loved, and moved on to experimenting with acrylics and pastels. Happily I saw a poster for Angela's group at Woolavington, and joined with friends.  Angela has inspired me with her choice of topics and gentle guidance, and it's been lovely to be part of a very supportive and encouraging group.

I still like the challenge of watercolours, exploring light and shade, but have more recently started using oils for their wonderful qualities, and I particularly enjoy figure and portrait painting, especially trying to capture something of the character of the subject.

Please browse through my gallery, and I hope you enjoy it.
